Last night before bed we had to have dinner with the orphanage director and staff, there were about 20+ people there, not including the families. It is custom to drink in celebration, so Adam tried a Heineken (sp) and remembers now why he doesn’t like it, but they thought it was funny.
We had the day off today so we went swimming and then all the families took a tour of a place called Quan Di Tich, the Cham Towers. It is a small palace from the 14th century where a king lived. It is on a mountain and we could see Ninh Thuan in 360 degrees.
To get to the Towers we had to go through the village and saw the ‘real’ side of Vietnam. Everyone was outside making food, pigs and dogs roamed the streets and school children were all riding their bikes. It started to rain on us, so we got to run through the rain to a little shop and we got to talk with 4 workers. They shared their fruit with us and we took pictures of them and showed them on the camera, they though it was cool.
After our tour we went to The Market. This was an EXPERIENCE, to say the very least. We were the sight to see, everyone ran to us, touched our babies and were speaking Vietnamese to us like we knew what they were saying. They were obsessed with us and followed us throughout the whole Market. There were all kinds of fruit stands, material shops, raw fish being cut and tons & tons of old women wanting to hit our children on the arms, a custom. The young girls kept touching Adam’s arms because they wanted to see what he felt like and what his arm hair felt like, being blond.
We have been enjoying the food, the restaurant here has a large selection, we are going to share a few items that are on the menu, exactly as it reads…
- Minced Sand-Lizard with Aromatics
- Sautéed Bindweed with Fermented Beancurd
- Various Kinds of Raw Seafood Dipped in Steamboat
- Fish and Fermented Bamboo Shoot in Hot Pot
We have been getting things like white rice with yellow noodles, fried shrimp, seafood soups and stirfried beef, these are more pleasing to us as you can imagine.
Avi Joy is perfect in every way, she loves being dressed, bath-time, she is on a great schedule, loves to eat, sleeps well and we love her!
One more free day and back Ho Chi Minh City.
