We left early this morning for an hour and a half drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels. These are the tunnels that the Viet Cong (guerrilla’s) used against the US during the Vietnam War. It was waaayyy out there in the boonies of Vietnam and the streets were bumpy and narrow. This trip was a challenge for me.

There were many different areas to see, the bomb sites, the meeting rooms and of course the tunnels. They were very small, Adam had to squat and Michael had to crawl through the big tunnels. We did not attempt the small tunnels. Heather and I made it about 20 feet and it was just enough to catch the drift so we exited asap.

It was interesting to see the war from the Vietnamese point of view. All the pictures and videos were of American’s dying and they called us little devils. Adam loved this part of our trip being the history/war buff that he is.

Our tour guide for this outing was great. He told us a good place to have lunch and it was the best food we have had in Vietnam. The funny thing was it was Italian. Best pasta and tiramisu ever!

Avi Joy did wonderful today. If she is fed promptly and gets to change positions often, shes a happy girl. We did add a little rice cereal to her bottle so she wouldn’t be drinking as much and she seemed much happier today. Her favorite things are still getting dressed and having her diaper changed, she just coos.

One of the best things we brought along on this trip was a gift from another adoptive mom-to-be, it is our sling. We love that thing and Avi loves it too. We can carry her in many different positions and she can sleep and play and it keeps her close to us. Thank you Becky!

A lot of people smoke here. They do not have the same regulations as in the US so there are not smoking sections in restaurants, if you happen to sit next to someone who smokes, there is nothing you can do about it.

We stopped back by the art studio. We found out that the two men (we took a picture of them) painted everything in the shop. Hundreds and hundreds of pieces of art. They range from copies of famous artworks, to abstracts, portraits, landscapes, everything! Very impressive.

We have loved spending the week here in Ho Chi Minh City. It has been great to experience the city, the people and the food. We would encourage anyone to come and see HCMC, the people are gracious and hardworking. And the handcrafted gifts here are awesome.

We leave for Hanoi, the capitol, in the morning!

As I was reading my itinerary on your trip, it says you were flying back to Ha Noi on Sunday. You say you are leaving Friday morning and all could think of is, are you going to get your new fitted clothes? Haha...
Will you still be interviewing on Monday and have the weekend to see Ha Noi?
I can't wait to see Avi Joy, she sounds like she is happy, just like her mom. Not that Adam is not, but you wear yours on the outside. I love you all. MOM

      Hi Avi Joy,
It's me, Zachary again. My mom told me that you are teething. OUCH - I have eight teeth now, 4 on top and 4 on bottom. My mom kept saying "thank the lord for Hyland's teething tablets" they made the pain on my gums go away. I think your mom is giving you those too; don't you feel better? I'm crawling all over the place - when you can crawl, you will get to explore every inch of your house. It's a lot of fun! It sounds like you are having a lot of fun with your mom and dad and friends over there. I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun with you too. I'll try not to crawl over you when we meet (I did that at daycare yesterday when my mom came to pick me up!).
It sounds like you are growing lots; which is really good. I laugh and smile when my mom shows me your pictures. Well, I should go. My mom asked that you say hello to your mom for her and give her a big hug. Oh, one more thing about the teeth - you'll feel much better once your tooth "breaks through" as my mom says. Then you can put things in your mouth and make lots of noise!
Have fun on the rest of your trip. Be safe.
      Love your friend,
      Zachary
