We went to Hoa Lu and Tam Coc all day today. It was about 3 hours to get there and we stayed for about 3 hours. Hoa Lu is the ancient capitol of Vietnam that has now been turned into a buddhist pagoda with statues of the late kings inside. It was in the middle of the most beautiful countryside with mountains all around. We then traveled 30 minutes to Tam Coc.

Tam Coc is a small village of about 6,000 people. They all live on the river; they harvest rice, raise goats (which we ate) embroider clothing and carve artistic stones. The tour was 2 hours by boat through their village. Basically their life is on display for all to see. To get to the outer parts of the village we had to pass under 3 mountains caves. It wasn’t dark for long, but just long enough to pray and realize they do this all day long to travel from here to there. The pictures are amazing of both places and we will post them soon.

Avi Joy’s Top 12! This will be wonderful for grandparents and future babysitters.

  1. Do not accidentally call her Quincy or Israel, she hates that. (our dogs)
  2. If you want to see her smile, change her diaper or change her clothes.
  3. She goes from happy to screaming in 2 seconds flat when waiting for food, have those bottles ready and waiting when her 2 hours is up.
  4. She loves her nighties with footies and she sleeps through the night.
  5. She has sensitive skin; don’t wash her hair with anything it makes her face break-out with baby acne. Well have to find the right shampoo.
  6. She loves to have her own personal exercise time where she fails her arms and high-kicks her legs.
  7. She tells great loud stories in baby talk just before she falls asleep.
  8. She loves her hands and loves to touch your face, she can hold her bottle, can hold her rattle and as daddy says she has a kung fu grip.
  9. She is a major 15 minute cat napper, while all the other kids are down for two 2 hour naps, she takes three 15 minute naps and she sleeps on her sides.
  10. She hates her nose to be picked and hates to be moved during her cat napping.
  11. She is a Major Sweaty Girl!!! She loves air-conditioning and no clothes.
  12. She can take her bottle however… hot, cold or room-temp (this has been a life saver.)

We are sure that we will get to know her better as will you, but she asked us to post a little more info about her! We will be leaving on the train to Sapa tomorrow night and will not have internet access. We will post days 19 and 20 along with day 21 to tell you about our weekend trip… with love, the p’s.

      Hi Guys!
Jarad and I are still praying for you all the time!
I absolutely love this entire website! Please make sure to find a way to save it, the future-Avi Joy will love to have such a detailed account of her first weeks with her family!
I was thinking about how long you have to ba away from home, and feeling bad for you guys (even thought I know better), when I started thinking how wonderful it is that you two will have such rich and wonderful stories about Avi Joy's heritage.
Natasha, I bet you can really fill in that blank "Little Golden Book" now!
I am so happy that you are getting to bond so much, but we all miss you!
Praying for a quick and safe return!

I loved Avi Joy's list. The liking to have her clothes changed must be a girl thing. Our boys never liked changing clothes. George is a challenge to dress. He is very mobile and by the time he has a fresh diaper on he has squirmed out of my grasp and is running across the floor with me and his grand dad in hot pursuit with his clothing. Melissa and Bryan have better control of the situation, but when I get him dressed we all get a work out. I'm glad you are having a good time and that Avi Joy is doing so well. It's not easy for a baby to get her parents trained. As far as her stories in "baby" George also speaks fluent "baby" they will have a lot to talk about! Love you all, God Bless, Grandma Cleo
